• Explain the growth of the colonial indentured servant system.
• Explain how the system of indentured servitude was organized.
• Explain who participated in the system.
• Explain their goals and motives.
• Explain how this system of servitude shaped the American colonies.
• Explain why indentured servitude eventually declined and gave way to the Atlantic slave trade as a major source of colonial labor.

For the final Portfolio Project (due in Week 8), you will create an essay about an event, person, or era that took place during a period of U.S. history to Reconstruction. The Portfolio Project will be a scholarly essay or digital exhibit written in academic standard 3rd person. You should review the Portfolio Project instructions for Options 1 and 2 in the Week 8 folder, and choose the option you wish to complete.

Your topic posting should include the following:

• A title
• A fully developed thesis statement
• A brief (2-3 sentences) topic summary
• Possible primary sources.

Your final submission of the Portfolio Project must include at least five sources, including the primary source and a scholarly journal article, to support your paper. Review the Writing Center (Links to an external site.) for help with sources.
