As we explore how gender is socially constructed, we begin to understand the complexities of how culture forms our perceptions. Using the Lorber article, explain how you see your gendered self in various social situations. Are you more or less your assigned gender throughout the day? How do you know? Do you highlight your gender in any situation? Why and in what ways? How did you learn to be the gender you are today? A great example of how gendered lives are performed throughout the day is to reflect on public bathrooms. Feel free to make use of Heckman’s documentary, “Wrong Bathroom” as well as current issues in society today, related to gendered bathrooms and public policy as you craft your discussion this week. Remember to demonstrate your understanding of the material and cite properly.
