Arizona State University Spaniards and the Aztecs Questions

Effective communication is one of the keys to any successful interaction between people. This is true not only in the past (for example when the Europeans encountered the Native peoples); but also in today's world. How many times have you read a "tweet" from someone that completely conveyed the wrong message or was interpreted differently? This is extremely important in today's world to be clear and concise in your writing, especially when limited to 140 characters in small messages that everyone in the world can see. Not only is clear communication a factor, but the differing viewpoints from individuals plays a role in how effective your communication is. With these concepts in mind, in the following assignment, I want you to take your primary source readings and apply the concepts of clear 21st century communications.

First question:

After your searching , you will be asked to post several tweets about the meeting between the two different groups (Spaniards and Native Americans). Based upon your knowledge of each culture from these readings, the textbook, and any notes, follow the directions below: Extra explaining : you should review the writings of the Spaniards and then you'll post as if you were a Spaniard. Discuss relevant items and topics that the Spaniards would have said to the Aztecs and write in the tone they would have used. Based on your reading of the Spaniards, you should have an idea of what was important to them

1. I introduce yourself from the perspective of a Spaniard that has arrived with Cortes. Tell who you are, why you are there, and what your impressions and feelings are toward the Native groups that you have encountered, and what you hope to gain from the interaction.

2. Your messages should be brief (typically tweets are only 140 characters); so you'll have to be concise. It may take you more than one to convey your message.

Second question

After completing the Differing Viewpoints exercise and your "tweets" as a Spaniard or Native American, answer the follow-up questions:

1. What was the hardest part about the exercise?

2. How similar were the two different groups in their perspectives? How different? Explain.

3. Which group if any would be the most accepted in today's modern society? Why? Write your answers in a couple of complete paragraphs and submit. Be clear and concise in your writing.
