Purpose

This assignment aims to explore and evaluate a nurse-selected wearable technology used in health and wellness for a specific population.

Course Outcomes

This assignment enables the student to meet the following course outcomes:

• CO 2: Demonstrate how current and emerging information and communication technologies are utilized to address the needs of a diverse population. (POs 3, 4)

• CO 3: Explain how data from relevant technology sources informs the delivery of care and institutes change. (POs 2, 4)

Students?must?complete the Week 3 Part 1: Examining Wearable Technologies assignment and submit it to the Dropbox by Sunday?at?11:59?p.m.?MT.

Directions:

Complete the Examining Wearable Technologies template, by following the steps below.

1. Download the Examining Wearable Technologies template

1. Links to an external site.. Use of this template is required. If the template is not used, a 10% deduction will be applied. See the rubric. Save the template and include your name in the file name.

2. Select a wearable technology used for health and wellness. Refer to the Week 3 lesson for more information. A list of examples is provided below.

O ECG monitors

O Smartwatches that monitor ECG rhythms to detect irregularities

o Fitness trackers

o Smart rings and watches that monitor steps, calories, body mass index, and workouts

o Sleep monitors

o Smart rings and watches that rate the quality of sleep and breathing disturbances

o Fertility trackers

o Smart devices that detect basal body temperature

o Fall detectors

o Smart devices that detect falls or some type of impact

o Hydration biosensors

o Smart devices that detect hydration based on body moisture

o Continuous glucose monitors

o Smart devices that monitor blood glucose levels

3. Use information from the Week 3 lesson, feedback from the Part 1: Check-In, and at least one scholarly source from the Chamberlain Library to complete the template on your chosen wearable technology.

4. Correctly cite and reference ideas and information that come from the selected scholarly source. Include the Chamberlain permalink after the Reference. Additional scholarly sources may be used, but only one is required for this assignment. Sources should be no more than five years old unless they are historical references.

5. Follow rules of grammar, spelling, word usage, and punctuation consistent with formal, scientific writing.

6. Abide by Chamberlain University’s academic integrity policy.

Include the following sections (detailed criteria listed below and in the grading rubric). Answer the questions under each section with explanation and detail.

Introduction of Wearable Technology

1. Identify the wearable technology selected.

2. Discuss the intended purpose of the wearable technology.

3. Explain how it promotes self-care and/or illness management.

4. Discuss how the selected wearable technology would improve the selected health condition or health behavior chosen from the Healthy People 2030 website.

Advantages and Disadvantages

1. Discuss how the selected wearable technology would improve the health and well-being of the selected population from the Healthy People 2030 website.

2. Discuss 3 advantages.

3. Discuss 3 disadvantages.

4. Explore your opinion related to the recommendation of use.

3. Explore your opinion related to benefits vs. costs for the intended use.
