The mood disorders are one of the most common psychological problems in the contemporary Western world.  They are certainly one of the most frequently seen problems by therapists. For this discussion, I'd like you to do a little experiment. One of the successful treatments for depression is cognitive therapy. This involves changing negative thoughts into neutral, positive, or just more realistic thoughts. For this discussion, please pay attention to how you think about events in your life over the next 5 days. When you notice a chronic negative self-evaluation or negative interpretation of events, try to change it into a more realistic, neutral, or more positive interpretation. Try this everyday for 5 days.  What happened?  Did it help change your mood?  What difficulties did you find when you tried to change your thinking?
