Informed Consent Ted-Talk Assignment Guidelines

When you are done with your informed consent research, you should be uploading the following items into the Canvas dropbox folder:  

3-4 page, double spaced, Times New Roman, 1-inch margins, write up of your take ways of the research and overall takeaway from the assignment

Reference page attached (Not included in 3-4-page count)

Mp4 recording of your Ted-Talk (via Zoom, MS Teams, YouTube) Questions to consider when thinking about what to write

What conversation theme do you want to have for your ted-talk?

What is the purpose of your Ted-Talk?

What do you hope your audience will gain out of your Ted-Talk?

For the write-up, I would suggest you use the following questions to help guide what you write:

What is an informed consent document?

What did you learn about, in the process of doing your research for this talk?

What is the document’s significance?

When did the document first become a mandated document for research?

What significant events happened in history for informed consent to become apart of research?

 How ethical was the research before the informed consent document was mandated?

 How ethical is research now that the informed consent document is a mandated part of getting research study’s approved?

Why do you think unethical research still occurs, even with the informed consent document mandated?

 Has the informed consent document benefited you in some way as a researcher or as a research participant?

Make sure you cite and reference at least 10 scholarly articles from academic journals to back up what you are saying in your paper and when speaking verbally. You can find articles that talk more about events in research history that were highly unethical and cite those authors as well as articles that research information on the informed consent document itself. You may cite your textbook too, but only after you cite your- 10 scholarly articles from academic journals. Citations must be in APA 7th edition format.

Make sure your APA reference page meets 4 rules: 1) all citations are alphabetized, 2) all citations are doubled spaced 3) second line and beyond of citations are indented, and 4) each sentence has a period at the end. If you do all of this, you have a stronger chance of earning maximum points on an assignment.
